Sweet Tea

When I came home from She Speaks and shared with my husband about their delicious sweet tea, well, he was thrilled to show me that Mcdonalds was selling sweet tea now too.

Definitely NOT what I drank in North Carolina!

My sweet tea friend Starr from Threshold Moments and North Carolina, just emailed me her special recipe. I thought I would share it with all of you who, like me, are not from the South, but just would love a cup of sweet tea.

Boil a small sauce pan full of water. Remove it from heat. Steep 4 family size tea bags in it for at least 15 minutes (I sometimes forget and leave mine all day...it does not hurt a thing!). Then pour it into a gallon pitcher over 2 cups of sugar (yep, I did say 2 cups!) Then, fill up the pitcher the rest of the way with cold water.

Enjoy!

O my goodness girl, I am gonna be thankin for for the rest of my life!
You haven't lived until you've sipped sweet tea over ice on a front porch swing.

I had to laugh out loud at this post! I don't know exactly what your tea tasted like in the south, but I have been making ice tea like this for a long time. I just don't leave those tea bags in all day. To me it becomes bitter. I also use honey and lemon.(sometimes)

Love that look on your face!

And when I make my sweet tea, I use Splenda. I don't feel so guilty about it and I think Splenda tastes just as good (well, almost) as the real stuff!

Enjoy your new treat!

That is so funny! There were 2 restaurants in our northern town that sold sweet tea and we stalked them (NOT McDonalds's). It was hilarious when our family came to visit - they didn't know what to drink when they ordered!

Have you made yeast rolls yet? I still can't believe you don't know movie stars - you've ruined my image of California :)

Sheesh! 2 cups. I don't know about that.

I was rolling through FatDonald's,(Mickey D's, McD's, whatever one wants to call it...) daily for a half sweetened half unsweetened tea for two months.

I recently gave it up. (A struggle initially) But I now brew Starbucks Iced Black Tea at home daily. It is great tea. Even when it is unsweetened!!

Have a great day my friend.

Yep! That was EXACTLY my impression when I first tried McD's "sweet tea" - ugh - I think they should give it up while they are ahead! Ha! Beloved thinks it is "okay" - but he was not raised in the South! We both like CFA(chik-fil-a)'s a hundred times better than McD's - however it must be fresh - you know - or even it won't be satisfying for a true "sweet tea drinker".
The recipe you've attached is approximately what we use. Homemade sweet tea is truly the best?

P.S. And I am with cherdecor above - I don't leave my bags in all day or else it tastes old to me!

Enjoy your sweet tea "sugah!" I am sure you got some of that in the south too!

This is all very interesting. Being a person who's drank tea all her life from hot brewed, sun brewed, and even instant tea in time so desperation.

I don't drink sweet tea...just way toooooo sweet. I accidentally got sweet tea from McD's and it was not good but then no sweet tea would be.

I agree with one of your previous readers that I drink tea with splenda. I can't afford to have the extra sugar/calories. I'd rather have a splenda tea with a fat candy bar. haha

I like McD's unsweet tea. My favorite is Long John Silver's tea.

I guess I'm no help for suggestions since I don't drink sweet tea. I would just assume that this recipe would taste the same as most restaurants. Personally, I think the difference very well may lie in the BRAND of tea bags. I don't think this recipe will work with ALL brands.
You may want to try different brands.

Oh, your pics are priceless. I would love to now try your southern sweet tea to know how bad McD's is to make you have this face.
SMiles.

Oh my goodness--- 2 cups!?!?! Okay, I guess I'll try it. I can't wait, it sounds actually very refreshing. I love the photos! Can't wait to try this sweet tea

I like ice tea, but I don't care for sweet tea. I have a Mr Coffee Ice tea maker. I love this machine.
Wal-Mart has them.

Love the funny picture of you drinking the tea. What a riot!

2 cups of sugar? Really? I actually like the tea at McD's, but I do order it half and half. Hey, that's about the only place left where you can any size drink for less than a dollar... and the dollar sweet tea is a bladder buster!

Hey in east Texas 2 cups of sugar is mild for some, not me though it is just enough. You can also add a few dashes of cinnamon or vanilla. Some love lemon freshly squeezed in but not me.....
