Ok, I know I'm a little late for the Oscars, but if there were an award for "Actress in a Leading Role - Mother who hates field-trips" category, I'd be a shoe-in.
I've already shared with you my great unlove of everything field trip.
But, it seems this year I drew the unluckiest of all cards. In ninety-six hours and thirty-eight minutes, I'm heading off on a four-day camping trip with seventy 5th graders.
Have I mentioned this is tent camping?
Or, that I don't camp?
Or, that it might rain?
Or, that I've got the 11pm-1am watch for wild animals?
Really.
Pray for me. I'm up to my eyeballs in sleeping bags, flashlights, and bug spray. If it weren't for my beautiful little girl who lights up each time this trip is mentioned, I'd have backed out a long time ago.
She ran home and shared with me after school yesterday, "Mom! Look what I have, the list of our meals for the trip next week. We are going to have hot dogs, Top Ramen, Funions..."
"Wow. Hot dogs AND Funions AND Top Ramen...yummmmmyyyyyyy!" I smiled, pretending to lick my lips as I hugged her.
...and the Oscar goes to Joanne Kraft, for her spectacular performance in "Mother Hates Field Trips and Camping - But Loves Her Daughter More."

Very, very cute post. You're gonna hate every minute of it, but have great memories afterward - you'll see. Your daughter is. Have fun!
You do deserve it! What a Mom!
Aw, Joanne, you're such a trooper! I hate to admit, but I'm right there with you on fieldtrips. :P Thankfully those days are long past for me. Looong, loooong past! I'm just happy you're no longer sick. Or perhaps if it had hung around longer you could've used it as an excuse to get out of tripping? Sorry, but I'm giggling. *smile*
**(applauding)**
great acting! It will be worth every minute of sticky bug spray and uncomfortable sleeping bags!! Have fun and soak in the memories!!
Just go ahead and shoot me now...
I knew we were kindred spirits. Have fun.

I love you, lol saying prayers for you.
You are such a good mom....
Can't wait to hear what happens....
What a great mom you are! I spent 2 years with 100 6th grade students so that my kids could attend a better school.
Just think... you could be teaching them and with them every single day of the school year.
Instead, you only have to give them 4 days!
You go girl!
Blessings,
Melanie
Enjoy yourself...this trip was concocted to test your patience, apparently ;)
Love your personality. Can you move closer?
Joanne,
I hope you have lots of fun! Yes, fun...even with the bugs and wild animals, and lots of fifth graders that aren't your daughter. I am praying for you to have fun...lots of it!
Blessings & happy camping!
