'Blessed' Books-Tuesday

As Christians, our marriages should be a living breathing example to the world. Our marriages should look different to people. Unfortunately, just as the secular world, shamefully our statistics for divorce are not much better.

The book 'Love and Respect' is written from the Ephesians 5:33 mandate "But every husband must love his wife as he loves himself, and wives should respect their husbands." I have enjoyed many books on marriage and this one is one of my favorites. It is not only an easy read (my husband and I read a chapter together each night), it is a great encouragement.

My husband and I make a point to attend our church's marriage conference each year. We have also been blessed to attend 'A Weekend to Remember' put on by Dennis Rainey and Family Life Today. We always try to make a point to take what I like to call our 'marriage temperature'. We get a marriage check-up, if you will. When we leave these conferences we go down the check list, marking off the things we are succeeding at and highliting those things that need work. This book was one reccommended to us by friends who had heard author Dr. Emerson Eggerichs speak at their church. It is now a book that I keep on my shelf and as recently as yesterday, gave to a neighbor of mine who is hurting in her marriage.

If you are married, take the time to read this book. Whether you think you need it or not...you will be 'Blessed'!

Love Eggerichs. Great book. A friend of mine attended a conference with Eggerichs as the main speaker in Florida. Said it was life changing.

Paul and I have also been to the FLT conferences. I loved everything I learned... he loved the "homework". Hmmmmm... :0)

Great book pick friend.

Great book! I am jealous of you about the "weekend to remember retaet" I haven't talked my hubby into that yet but I also haven't pushed it because it is "funner" when it is his idea.

Hi, Joanne!I've had this book for a couple of years. It is good. Recently I was discouraged as I have been wanting to learn how to connect with my 14 year old son, and it just doesn't work the same way as with girls. I spoke with a lady who has raised 3 sons and she suggested I pull this book out again, and read the "respect" part, and then try to implement relating this way to my son, as he is becoming a man. It has made such a difference in our relationship, and I'm learning to give my "little man" respect...and he thrives on it! I guess it's just the way men are wired!

Pretty cool advice, huh?
