Resurrection Eggs

The project in my Sunday school class today was to make resurrection eggs. For those of you who are not familiar, resurrection eggs are plastic eggs that each hold a small symbol of the story of Easter. We bought ours through "Focus on the Family" a few years back.

The kids took something from each of the bowls below and placed them in each egg.

Here is what we had for each egg...

1) Three silver coins (nickels) to represent the betrayal of Jesus by Judas.

2) A piece of rope (twine) to represent the arrest of Jesus.

3) A feather to represent Peter's denial of Christ three times.

4) Leather whip to represent the beating of Jesus.

5) A thorn (taken from my rose bush) to represent the crown of thorns Jesus wore.

6) Three nails to represent the nails in His hands and feet.

7) A tiny spear (food skewer dipped in red food coloring) to represent the soldier who put the spear in Jesus' side.

8) Torn purple satin material to represent the veil of the temple torn in half.

9) Strip of muslin to represent Jesus' burial clothes.

10) Cinnamon to represent the women who prepared Jesus' body with spices.

11) A rock to represent the rock that sealed His tomb.

12) The last egg you leave empty to represent the empty tomb!

Inside each egg carton we taped the printed out scripture references for each egg. This way the chidlren could find it in their Bibles when sharing the story with their families.

My prayer is that this will start a tradition in their own families or at least place a special memory in their hearts of just how special Jesus really is.

I think this is such a great idea! Hopefully I can get my act together and get all the items I need together so that I can do this with my kids one day this week!

This would be such a great tradition to start with my kids!

When I taught in the Christian school some years ago, I bought all the plastic eggs and had the students bring in the egg cartons. I also gave them a list of things to fill each egg.

After we put together the eggs which happened way in advance of Easter, I allowed each student (a couple a day) to go in front of the class, open each egg and tell the meaning of each one. My philosophy was, if they can say it back to me, they learned the lesson.

I think this is a wonderful way to teach about the resurrection of Christ.

Bless you for making this lesson so special for your Sunday School Students! They will never forget the lesson.

We've done those before too. I think they are such a great teaching tool. Looks like the kids all enjoyed making them!

I wanted to thank you for your Sunday School posts. I wait for them so I know what craft I'll do with my children throughout the week.

They really enjoyed my rendition of Jesus on paper that I taped to the door so they could write on it. :0)

Love you friend.

Cool, my MOPS group did the same thing for our craft this month.
I'm going to use those, the jelly bean prayer & the meaning of the basket with my kids this year.

I had only heard of this. So nice to have it all layed out and explained. I am going to start this with my younger boys. This year is so fun in that all three of them pretty much now get what is going on.

We bought some of these a couple years back. The kids really enjoy doing this. My oldest told me just the other day that we needed to get out the ressurection eggs. Of Course, I have not done it yet so I'm glad I stopped by to get this reminder! She will be very happy to see that I remembered!! :)

Thanks for stopping by my place today. You blessed me with your comment!~ Cheri
