Blessed Guest - Nan, Moms The Word

I'm a Blessed Guest!

My Blessed Guest today was introduced to me through blogland. When you come across a blog like hers, you pull up a seat and stay awhile. She has a heart for the home and a love for her her family that shines through each post on her site. If you haven't met her already, I'm looking forward to introducing you. I know you're going to just love her. Another gal I hope to hug someday.

Please give a loud round of comments, to my blog-friend Nan at Moms the Word!

MomsTheWord

Welcome to Blessed. It's an honor to have you stop by today. Your blog Moms the Word has encouraged many in the world wide web, to take joy in their homes. I'm so happy you're here Nan. Pull up a chair and grab yourself a cup of tea. We're looking forward to having you share a little bit about yourself today!

Let's begin in the beginning Nan. Tell us about the birth of Moms the Word.

One day I did a Google search on budgets and wound up on a blog. I was enchanted by the idea that I could come back the next day and read more ideas on the subject. Who knew? That blog led me to finding other blogs and I was hooked! Eventually I began to toy with the idea of starting my own frugal blog. I began blogging in October 2008 but my blog soon took on a life of it's own and it's totally different from how I originally envisioned it, but that's o.k!

What do you/ don't you love about it?

I love the bloggy friendships I have made, they're awesome! It's hard to believe that you can make such friendships with total strangers who now seem like sisters. I mean, there's a whole sisterhood out there that you can talk with about cramps, pimples, leg hair, recipes, family, and the Lord! What's not to love! I don't like the fact that I can't keep up with everyone's blogs and commenting like I'd like to. There just isn't enough time to read and comment on as many blogs as I'd like, and that's saying something as I like to talk! I also had to cut down on my own blogging due to the time factor. I don't like how blogging can just suck me in so I have to really be careful.

What has surprised you the most about blogging?

That I actually enjoy it. I had never heard of blogging before but I don't think I would have imagined myself as someone who would enjoy it. Previously, I rarely spent time on the computer, I didn't like email or facebook (I like it now) and stayed as far away from the computer as I could. I am also surprised at the sweet friendships that I have made. Also surprised that someone actually reads and laughs at the things that I write. Sometimes I think that I should pay them for allowing me to subject them to my sometimes strange sense of humor and the things that I find funny.

Bloggers are usually writers. Do you write anywhere else or for anyone else?

No, I don't. I did enjoy writing in school though. I also made up stories for my children when they were little, and my mom always encouraged me to write them down. I also used to write awesome letters that I never mailed.......

Do you use your blog for your ministry?

I want my blog to encourage women to take joy in their homes and to make their homes sing. I want to encourage them in their marriage, parenting their children, their walk with the Lord, or to make them think or just laugh and have fun, It leans more to the lighthearted and you won't find deeply spiritual things on my blog very often. That's because I tend to agonize over a spiritual post and want to make sure that I am communicating my thoughts well and that any Scripture I use or information I give is correct and in context and won't be misunderstood.

For that reason it takes me a very long time to do a post such as that, so I don't do them often. I don't want the heavy responsibility of communicating things properly, which explains the humorous posts or posts about messy kitchens, or children leaving their shoes all over the place, etc. Also, it's a time factor thing. It's easier to do a quick, lighthearted post. Still, I hope that my faith pervades my blog, although it is more of an outlet than a ministry. Though I'd like to think it can minister from time to time.

Who are a few of your favorite blogs to read?

Oh, I couldn't list just one here, there are so many (but you know I love yours!). I love mom blogs, frugal blogs, humorous blogs, spiritually encouraging blogs, homemaking, cottage decorating.....

Have you ever met your blog-friends in person? If so, which ones?

No, unfortunately I haven't. There are only a few blog friends I've made that live in the Pacific NW but we haven't met yet. Maybe someday!

Who has made the biggest impact on your life?

Wow, do I have to pick just one? I would say that knowing Jesus as my Savior has made the biggest impact. He is Someone Who has been faithful in my past, given me guidance in the present and gives me a hope for my future. My mother was a huge influence growing up and I am blessed to have her living in our home with us today. My husband and my children have hugely impacted my life as well, as I can't imagine living without them!

Do you have a favorite scripture?

Philippians 1:6 is my life verse that I memorized when I was just a teen: "Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it, till the day of Jesus Christ."

What would surprise us about you?

Wow, I don't know. Ummmm, honestly, I don't think anything would surprise you about me. I have blogged about all sorts of strange things that come into my head and frankly, I think you all just shake your heads and say "Well, there she goes again.....where does she come up with that stuff?" Let's just call it The World According To Nan.

What's your favorite flavored potato chip?

I like the plain ones. Boring, maybe, but a classic!

Favorite thing to do with your family?

Does going to Disneyland count? I also just love the times when we can sit and eat popcorn and play board games or watch a movie together. Just being together!

What book is on your nightstand right now?

My Bible is always a constant. I also like to read several books at once. I will start with a book and get about halfway through and then start another one, then eventually go back and finish the first one. I like a little excitement and variety in my reading, I guess!

Last food you ate?

Hel-looooo! I am eating right now!!!!! You seriously think I could sit here at the computer and not eat? Puh-lease. I am eating chocolate and shhhhh, please don't tell anybody!

When was the last time you played the air guitar?

Wow, a looooooong time ago. I had to do it for a drama warm-up once. Nearly pulled a ham-string......

Thanks for stopping by today Nan. I know my readers loved getting to know you better. Come over again soon!
