4th-Child-Syndrome-Do You Have It?

At 4:45pm I yelled for my son Samuel to hurry to the car. It was time to head out for Cap Night. Have you ever attended Cap Night? It is a wonderful and much loved annual event where the little league gathers 4.6 million little boys under the age of ten - feed them their weight in store bought cookies and then tell them to sit still while awaiting to hear what team they are on.

We were running late. I walked down the hall to see where Samuel was. This was my discovery.

Have you figured it out yet?

Shocked. I asked my son why in the world he had put on two different shoes for Cap Night?

"Mom, these are the shoes I wore to school today!" He said.

I had no idea.

I took the above pictures, then rushed him into the car and over to his big event...still wearing the shoes.

Since I only have 4 kids, that syndrome isn't present at my house. However - I know I was more lenient with my 3rd than my first!

LOL! You're right, I would have immediately changed my daughter's shoes (she must look perfect, right?). Too cute. And I'm sure Cap Night is interesting!

Thank you again for calling yesterday. You are absolutely precious!

I did this several times when I was pregnant! Just couldn't see my feet, lol! My friend's daughter wears different colored socks every day, so I guess he's just making a fashion statement, hehehe!

THAT is way too funny! We have four too, but our littlest is just one. Yep, I feel it too...the standards, the have dropped :)

I think it falls under the category of "that's life", and I don't feel even a tiny twinge of guilt. Well. Maybe a itty-bitty-tiny twinge...but nothing to lose sleep over :)

I came by to thank you for your comment on my guest post at Moms In The Right this week. Sure nice to meet you :)

Hi Joanne,

Your header is new since I last visited. Nice...and Luke 1:45 is very special to me. Imagine what his teacher at school thought! It made for a good post though. He will say in ten years, "Mom, I can't believe you let me do that!" Just one of those 4 things! B

Thank you for your kind comments! And no, I will not ask for a restraining order! HAHA! I too, am a blog stalker.

As the "big sister" of 5 kids, (3 girls, 2 boys) I have had my share of going to little league meetings and games for my brothers. Obviously it's been a while since I've been to a game, but I kind of miss them! The shoes, are too funny. When I was about 7, I had some pairs of Keds that were different colors...I thought I was SO cool because I would wear two different colors at the same time. Oh my...I'll have to dig up a few of those pictures!

Oh Joanne - how I can relate! About 4 years ago I picked by son and daughter up from elementary school. Josh got in the van and said "why did you give me Aly's jeans to wear?" At that age he put on whatever I handed him in the morning. He went through the school day in girl jeans with a big 'ol heart patch on the butt. My family will never let me live that down. Hopefully my youngest son, Evan, (my kindergartener) will never go to school in a dress!

how cute! i have to say...i have pulled this same thing back in the day when i was teaching. it took one of my students to point out to me that i had one black shoe on and one brown shoe on. how could i have not noticed????? oh well!

Too funny! We have a family story that is similar. My sweet Grandma once worked all day in one blue and one brown pump. When she came home--we were all gathered for Christmas Eve--we teased her relentlessly. She laughed and laughed!

I certainly do not stress as much over my third-born as my first. I am a much better mommy now because I've learned so much over 21 years of parenting. But I don't get worked up about the little things any more. Mis-matched shoes is a little thing. A funny, sweet, oops-I-wasn't-paying-attention-to-what-I-was-doing little thing.

My favorite fourth child story I tell on myself...

When my #4 son was a year old (or so, who can remember?) I took him to the pediatrician for a checkup in which the good doctor asked me how many teeth had come in. I looked at him blankly, HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA. "Um...well...he's got some..." was my embarassed response! With my first child, I would have not only know exactly how many teeth he had, I would have known the exact date each cut the gum! :-)

Oh wow, this makes me feel so much better...lol!!! We only have 3 (so far) but I definitely do things differently than I did when I just had one. You just have to let the least important things slide, and I think it ends up adding a lot more life and laughter to the family when you let those things go!

LOL! My second (out of three) ran past me to the car this morning with his athletic pants on backwards. The little starter symbol was on his right rear cheek!

Yep. We laugh a whole lot more. It's a survival thing, I think.
